The CSCHN recognizes these rights for its clients:

  1. The right to free expression, choice and action. The CSCHN ensures that each person receives the respect, dignity, consideration and privacy they may need.
  2. The client has the right to receive comprehensive, adequate and continuous quality services in a safe and secure environment.
  3. The client has the right to self-determination and to benefit from all or part of our services. He has the right to refuse treatment as permitted by law and to be informed of the consequences of his actions without fear of value judgment or malice on the part of the team or an employee.
  4. Clients have the right to participate in decisions affecting their health, and to be involved in the development of their treatment plan. He has the right to obtain accurate, complete and current information about his diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, in terms he can reasonably understand and which enable him to give his consent before the start of any health-related procedure or treatment.
  5. The client has the right to receive the services of a qualified health care provider and to receive professional treatment, care and advice.
  6. The client has the right to receive the necessary time from his caregiver and to be encouraged to ask questions.
  7. The client has the right to refuse the services of a trainee and has the right to refuse to have a trainee present during meetings with a CSCHN employee.
  8. Clients with disabilities have the right to be accompanied by a guide dog or service animal on the premises of the CSCHN, the right to bring a support person with them or to use personal assistive devices.
  9. The client has the right to provide recommendations as to how the CSCHN can improve the accessibility of its services for people with disabilities and for the entire community served, and has the right to lodge a complaint in this regard.
  10. The client has the right to be informed about preventive health care and the steps he can take to improve his health and well-being.
  11. The client has the right to be informed and to have explained to him or her the CSCHN’s policies regarding confidentiality and the protection of his or her personal information, including the reasons why certain information is collected and disclosed, and how this information is protected.
  12. The client generally has the right to consult his or her file and to request corrections to the facts recorded in his or her file, if any, and/or to lodge a complaint about the care or services received at the CSCHN. They can also expect an appropriate response in a timely manner.
  13. A parent or any person having legal custody of a client generally has the right to consult that person’s file, but it is always preferable to obtain the child’s consent, depending on his or her level of maturity and ability to understand. In the case of a deceased person, the representative of the estate or the executor of the will generally has the right to consult the deceased’s file.
  14. The client has the right to complain about the services of the CSCHN or the treatment received from any of its employees.
  15. The client has the right to receive the support of an intervener in order to file a written complaint.
