Anti-human trafficking program

Anti-human trafficking program

The anti-human trafficking program is a community-based support program for francophone children and youth who are victims of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, and their families. It aims to provide direct services adapted to the needs of children and youth from francophone and exogamous families, who are victims or at risk of being trafficked for sexual exploitation, in the Hamilton and Niagara regions.

The program has two components: psychotherapeutic support and prevention and awareness.

Individual psychotherapeutic support

This counseling service is offered to young people aged 13 and over in a safe, non-judgmental space dedicated to survivors and victims of human trafficking. It focuses on physical, emotional and mental well-being to help recover from trauma.

Our individualized, confidential support sessions take a holistic approach to the impact of trauma, helping clients to heal at their own pace.

Because human trafficking situations can be highly complex, a holistic approach including case management is essential.

With the aim of responding appropriately to the needs of the people who use our services, we offer support wherever they are in their journey. In order to develop a personalized circle of care, the counsellor offers support in the creation of a safety and transition plan, which may include referrals to other CSCHN services and outside referrals in the community.

To provide a level of support that respects autonomy and dignity, and encourages empowerment, transition plans are always created with the person using our services, according to their pace and goals.

Since supporting a survivor or victim of human trafficking can be very difficult, the anti-trafficking program also offers a support service for loved ones.

Prevention and awareness

This program is delivered through workshops, promotional materials and resources presented in schools, university and college campuses, newspapers, social media and in the community. We provide young people and professionals (teachers, nurses, social workers, school administrators, etc.) with the tools they need to recognize the warning signs of human trafficking, and the means used for recruitment, grooming and exploitation. The aim is to enable young people and professionals to prevent and identify high-risk situations, intervene at an early stage and find help and resources for victims and their loved ones.
