It has been proven that when you know what is normal for you, when you know your body well, it helps to detect changes (lump, coloration, heat, …) or abnormalities that could be related to cancer. Also, when discovered early, cancer is often easier to treat.
Above you will find the candid testimony of our own Nancy, community connection worker and ray of sunshine, who talks about what she herself had to go through after her diagnosis of breast cancer in January 2020.
TOO FAKE TO BE TRUE: THE CENTRE DE SANTÉ COMMUNAUTAIRE HAMILTON/NIAGARA’S NEW CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT THE COVID-19 VACCINATION EFFORT
To help the COVID-19 vaccination effort in the South Central Ontario region, the Centre de santé communautaire Hamilton/Niagara (CSCHN) is launching its VaccineNation, VaccineAction initiative, a campaign funded through the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Community Vaccine Innovation Challenge.
Beginning Thursday, October 21, 2021, a series of three short animated videos on the theme of misinformation will be relayed through social media to the French and English speaking community. The creation of this campaign was guided by new trends, particularly the phenomenon of Fake News. In addition to informing, trusting, promoting and raising awareness of the COVID-19 vaccination in Central-Southwestern Ontario, the CSCHN hopes to dispel doubts about the vaccination with offbeat videos.
“We were fortunate to receive a grant from the Public Health Agency of Canada, which we thank very much. With this initiative, we want to leave a lasting impression on people’s minds by distinguishing ourselves with an innovative and memorable campaign whose idea is to make people realize the importance of verifying the sources of information before finding it credible and true, to put an end to the beliefs of fake news, and to encourage a rapprochement with a health professional to remove doubts about vaccination” explains Emilie Albert, Promotion and Marketing Project Officer at the RIFCSO, who also collaborated on the project.
The main message of the series is: “Too fake to be true? Dispel your doubts about vaccination. Talk to a health professional. Vaccination is a collective responsibility. Don’t take it lightly! The best way to protect yourself is by getting vaccinated.”
“We are all guilty of having one day relayed, republished a story without first checking the credibility of the source or even without having read the entire article. Our short animations want to make each member of the community aware of their individual and collective responsibility and not to believe everything they see, read or hear. Reading, seeing or hearing information does not necessarily make it real!“, says Myriam Quinn, Communications and Social Media Officer at the CSCHN.
The videos are in French with English subtitles. A great project that will undoubtedly contribute to the collective effort to raise awareness of the Covid-19 vaccination.

Did you see what happened in Kentucky? A 16 year old woman was saved from being kidnapped after using a signal for help she saw on TikTok that was created by the Canadian Women’s Foundation.
We know that health measures have led to a surge in the number of women experiencing domestic violence, that they limit the chances of more vulnerable people to seek help safely, and that isolation can increase the risk of domestic violence in the home.
That’s why the Canadian Women’s Foundation invented a hand gesture, which leaves no digital footprint, that women can use to ask for help during a video call with family members, friends or even as the American girl did.
If a woman around you is using this hand signal, something is wrong.
It’s time to take action!

If you need immediate help in an emergency, call 911.
If you want to talk to us, contact us Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 905-528-0163 in Hamilton and 905-734-1141 in Niagara.

More than 200 families braved the wind on Saturday, December 11th to participate in a new event organized by the Hamilton and Welland teams of the CSCHN.
Surprises, magic glasses, hot chocolate, snacks and family games were offered to participants. Thank you to Mastermind St. Catharines for helping us with the purchase of the gifts and thank you to our friends at M.T. Bellies who donated certificates!
We wanted to offer our clients and residents of Niagara and Hamilton an opportunity to celebrate the holidays with us in a safe way. After 2 years of the pandemic, we were looking for something to do, something creative and fun. When the idea of a Drive-thru was presented to France, the new Executive Director of the Centre de santé communautaire Hamilton/Niagara, she immediately agreed and so we embarked on the adventure, explains Myriam Quinn, Communications and Social Media Officer at the CSCHN.
We’re hoping that the 2022 Holiday Season at the CSCHN will be a 2.0 version and that Mother Nature will be more cooperative.
For those of you who were unable to attend due to the weather, we have sent you an email with details on how to pick up your surprises.
Santa says a big thank you to everyone who sent us pictures. (We were able to get them to him) 🎅
Be safe this holiday season and make good choices.
